Cross country winding down for the season

The Pirate harriers ran in their League meet last week and are preparing for District competitition this weekend, while the Mustangs ran well over a tough course in another successful meet.

The Pirates were led on the 5k Fort Steilacoom course by junior Cole Hartness and senior Lucy Boyle, both of whom have run cross country on Vashon for five years, showing that consistent practice produces the school’s best times. At Leagues, both the boys’ and girls’ team finished in fourth place. The Pirates travel to their District championships this Saturday at Chambers Bay.

The Mustangs were led at Charles Wright by Ben Larson and Madeline Yarkin over a hilly course where logs, roots and tight turns challenged all the runners. Larson finished first over the 1.1 mile course in 10:06, followed in scoring by Gabe Zapf in 10:29, Davis Rice in 10:31, Dylan Fick in 11:36 and Oli Nielsen in 11:39. The boys won with 8 points to Charles Wrights’ 15 and Cascade Christian’s 27 points.
