End of season spring sports recap

Vashon High School baseball

Coming off a state championship win last year, the Pirates baseball team was young this season with only two seniors. The team finished its season 5-13 overall and 4-8 in the Nisqually League. The boys ended their season Saturday, losing to Chimacum 4-0 at Chimacum in the first round of the 2017 West Central District 3 1A Baseball Tournament.

Vashon High School boys’ golf

The Pirate boys’ of the golf team are heading to the Nisqually League Golf Championships tomorrow, Thursday, at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton. The team finished its regular season 3-8 overall and 1-7 in the Nisqually League with the team’s only win coming against Charles Wright Academy.

Vashon Valkyries lacrosse

Vashon Lacrosse Club’s high-school age girls team won its last game of the season Monday against South Kitsap. The team finished the season with a 7-2 record and will advance to the postseason with dates to be determined.

Vashon Vultures lacrosse

Meanwhile, Vashon Lacrosse Club’s high-school age boys’ team finished its season undefeated in the 1A/2A conference. The boys will begin postseason play on Saturday when they host a playoff game facing the winner of a match between Overlake and Sehome.

Vashon High School boys’ soccer

VHS’ boys’ soccer team had a stellar season, finishing regular season play second in the Nisqually League with a 9-5-1 overall record and 5-2-1 league record. The boys ended their season with a 2-1 loss at the hands of Bellevue Christian in the second round of the 2017 West Central District 1A Boys Soccer Tournament in Silverdale.

Vashon High School softball

The Vashon High School fastpitch softball team finished third in the Nisqually League with a 7-9 overall record and 1-5 Nisqually League record. The team lost 12-2 against Fife on Monday in its last game of the regular season and will begin postseason play at the 2017 West Central District 3 1A Softball Tournament on Friday at Sprinkler Fields in Tacoma. The team’s opponent has not yet been determined.

Vashon High School girls’ tennis

The Pirates’ girls’ tennis team had its last game of the season after press time Tuesday against Charles Wright Academy. As of Monday, the team was second in the league behind Charles Wright with a 6-5 overall record and 3-1 league record. The girls will begin postseason play tomorrow, Thursday, at the league tournament hosted by Charles Wright Academy.

Vashon High School track

The Vashon High School boys’ and girls’ track teams have had a season full of personal record setting. Post-seaosn competition begins Friday with the league championships in Fife. Two Vashon High School senior girls, Kat Andrus and Lauren Jenks, have had remarkable seasons and are going to be the ones to watch.
