The Vashon Pirates girls basketball team lost to the Seattle Christian Warriors Saturday night in the sub-district title game to decide the number one and number two team to tri-district.

The Pirates will move on in post-season play seeded second in the Nisqually League.

The game started at a fast pace, with both teams playing tough-minded defense.

“We played a very tough team tonight, a team that went undefeated throughout the season,” said Coach Henry Porter after the game. “The Warriors are not just a team on a mission to go to state. They are on a mission to win state, and it showed in the ferocity with which they played us tonight.”

The Pirates found themselves down 32-19 at the half.

The team had a lot of chances in the first half to make it a game, but were just getting far fewer shots at the basket.

The Pirates came out in the second half and turned the ball over three times for easy scores. They ended up being outscored 21-8 by the Warriors.

“This is a game that we have to put behind us and start thinking about Wednesday night,” Porter said. “We have a home playoff game coming up, and we have to come out and take it to them.”

The Pirates will face Cedar Park Christian at 7 p.m. today at Vashon High School. The Pirates hope Island fans will turn out en masse to see the team shine at home.
