Soccer team loses a nail-biter to Bellevue Christian

The Vashon High School girls’ varsity soccer team gave it their all last week Monday on its home turf during a thrilling 3-4 loss in double overtime to Bellevue Christian.

It was a tough first half, with multiple saves by sophomore goalie Tamsen Henry. Vashon’s offensive line persisted, attempting several shots on Bellevue Christian’s goal. With two minutes left in the first half, freshman Lucy Wing assisted junior Sydnee Adams, making it 1-2 at the whistle. Vashon came out strong the second half, with another goal by Adams, assisted by senior Emily Serebryakov.

With two minutes left in the game, down by one, Vashon pushed hard, earning an exciting, crowd-cheering game-tying goal by Serebryakov, assisted by Adams.

Vashon’s defense played an outstanding game, assisting goalie Henry in fending off Bellevue Christian’s offense. The winning goal for Bellevue Christian was a high corner kick with spin, with Henry giving it her all to save.

Islanders can catch the team’s next home game at Vashon High School at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, against Seattle Academy.
