Pirate wrestlers finished the regular season by beating Klahowya, the returning league champs, 49-30, to finish second in league.

Notable varsity wins came from Ethan McIntyre, Lewis Kanagy, Moses Kilpatrick, Luke Larson and Ryan Nelson.

Junior varsity winners included Jake Larson, Jordan Datscho and Yury Coucoules.

The young team — there are only four seniors in the 14 person lineup — responded to the opening season loss to Port Townsend (in early December) by going undefeated in league match-ups for the rest of the season.

Pirate Wrestlers’ young crew, made up of mostly freshman and first year wrestlers, hope and plan to continue the Vashon Wrestling tradition by taking home a team trophy at the League Tournament at home starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at the VHS gym.
