It makes sense to contribute to schools foundation | Letter to the Editor

Why has our family been contributing each month to the Vashon Island Public Schools Foundation from the very beginning? Simple. Was there a more important way to spend our money than for our daughter’s education? We didn’t think there was, so in the spring of 2010 we set up a monthly donation.

Last spring, I again arranged for a once-a-month contribution to the schools. I’ve already been on the Paypal site to set up this year’s pledge. All this has demanded of me is some time at the computer and a few keystrokes. What have I received? A daughter who asks me to return the pile of library books she zipped through, to look at the eight zillion mushrooms she photographed on the Sol Duc Falls trail during the science unit on fungi, to admire the just-for-fun travel journal she made of our trip to the Lewis & Clark historical sites, to find our binoculars for the fourth-grade KVI birding trip, to buy Cinderella pumpkins from the multi-age garden, to listen to songs she is learning in Andy James’ music class, to display the fun art she created at Chautauqua, and (OK, I’m actually doing the asking here!) to practice math facts in the car.

At our house, making a donation to the foundation happens just once a month, but I see the worthwhile results every day.
