The Catholic Church brings conscience to health care | Letter to the Editor

Thank God the Catholic Church is heavily involved in health care — that way we know there is a conscience involved. I welcome the Franciscan Health System to the island, and I wish they would enforce their ethical and religious directives.
The idea of separating religious doctrine from law and health care is bogus. Our great nation was founded on Judeo-Christian principles, which were embodied in the founding documents and laws. We have already caved in to misguided mercy and for a generation allowed wholesale slaughter of children in the womb in the name of liberty and equality. Few wars or earlier episodes of genocide have beaten our record for the destruction of human life. It is pertinent to note that this is what we like to term “health care.”
Obviously “health care” as such has no conscience. Without gatekeepers like the Catholic Church, it degenerates until it produces practitioners like Kermit Gosnell.
