Community response is heartening

Thanks to The Beachcomber for running a full story in last week’s paper on the Aug. 23 racial violence incident. While we are discouraged that the sheriff’s office has not yet arrested the perpetrators, it’s heartening to see many in our community respond with compassion and action.
Our special thanks to deputies Hancock and Patino for showing diligence and respect during the initial follow up, Janie Starr for her great op-ed, Clay Gleb at Thriftway for assuring there was a careful review of the incident and the store’s safety policies, Swan Eagle for organizing the community forum on racism (that 40 some people attended Sunday) and many of our friends who let us know they stand with the victim and against racisim of any kind in our community. We hope the current energy will continue to generate action.
