Emma Amiad provides sound advice on real estate and more

At our house Emma Amiad’s real estate column is one of the highlights of The Beachcomber. We’re often entertained and always informed by it. We especially enjoyed the column on the Vashon dress code, where Emma explained that yes, Vashon can be a little eccentric, and you can see someone wearing bedroom slippers in the grocery store, among other sartorial peculiarities.
Her recent column on escalator clauses in real estate bidding prompts a comment. As Emma explained, bidders can offer to top any other bid by some amount, $500, say, up to a point. When we sold our last house, an escalating bidder trounced another family who wanted the home. In the end, though, we decided an extra $500 wasn’t enough money to disappoint that nice family that really loved the house. We knew they would cherish it as we had.
Top dollar doesn’t always win.
And, ya, I’ve gone to Thriftway in bedroom slippers — big fluffy ones. Injured toe, and hey, it’s Vashon.
Thanks, Emma.
