Woody Gutherie songs at VCA

Seattle-based acoustic blues masters Ben Hunter and Joe Seamons will explore the legacy of Woody Guthrie’s songs in the show “Woody Gutherie’s Northwest Songs” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Kay White Hall.

Guthrie traveled through the Pacific Northwest in 1941, writing his famous songs like “Roll On, Columbia” and “Pastures of Plenty.” Yet, the majority of his songs from that period were never recorded. Those tunes are now being produced as an album by multiple generations of Northwest roots artists, including Hunter and Seamons. The duo will perform new arrangements of Gutherie’s work and tell stories about his trip through the region.

Winners of the 2016 International Blues Challenge, Hunter and Seamons have performed at the Port Townsend Blues Festival, and recorded and toured with Dom Flemons.
