Barbara Earl Thomas, a Seattle-based artist and former director of the Northwest African American Museum, will give a talk about truth and the creative impulse at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Kay White Hall.
She will also discuss the role of the artist in society today plus what guides and influences her own artwork, which often involves social issues and her commitment to social responsibility. Thomas has exhibited her work at Seattle and Tacoma Art Museums, with residencies at Pilchuck and Hedgebrook. Recently, Bainbridge Island Museum of Art exhibited a 30-year retrospective of her work, including paintings, prints, glass sculpture, paper cuts and a site-specific installation with text.
Tickets are sold at vashoncenterforthearts.org, VCA and Heron’s Nest Gallery.
