Carpenters tribute comes to VCA

Singer Lisa Rock has compiled a tribute to the music and life of The Carpenters. She has toured the work to stages across the country with her six-piece backing band and will bring her show to VCA’s Kay White Hall at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Hailing from Chicago, the ensemble is dedicated to re-creating the true sound of The Carpenters, showcasing some of the most memorable songs of the ’70s including the group’s hits “We’ve Only Just Begun,” “Rainy Days and Mondays” and “Close to You.” These songs still resonate with listeners 40 years after they topped the Billboard charts.

A playwright as well as a singer, Rock has performed to sold-out crowds for years, drawing in the audience with anecdotes about both Karen and Richard Carpenter and how some songs originated.

Now in its seventh year performing this tribute, the band will play the music as Karen and Richard composed it, maintaining a fidelity to the original arrangements and keys with Rock’s impressive four-octave range. Organizers expect the show to be a memorable and stirring listen down memory lane.

Tickets are sold at VCA, Heron’s Nest and vashoncenterforthearts.org
