Girsky Quartet presents Beethoven marathon

The Girsky Quartet will continue the tradition of the playing Beethoven’s quartets — which started last year — and perform all six of Beethoven’s op. 18 quartets in a progressive concert held every hour on the hour from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at three of the island’s churches.

At 1 and 2 p.m., the group will play at the Havurat, at 3 and 4 p.m. at the Methodist Church, and 5 and 6 p.m. at the Lutheran Church.

Holly Boaz will sing Schubert’s “Shepherd on the Rock” at 3:30 p.m. at the Methodist Church, and Dr. Gary Koch will sing Beethoven’s song cycle “An Die Ferne Geliebte” (“To the Distant Beloved”) at 5:30 p.m. at the Lutheran church.

Admission is by donation at the door.

All proceeds will go to Vashon Island Cello Camp scholarships and the new middle school youth choir, the Vashon Island Choral Boosters.
