Thankful for exercise: Soccer, fun run events offered on Thanksgiving

Islanders will have ample opportunities for exercise tomorrow before giving thanks and gathering around tables filled with turkey and trimmings.
The Vashon Running Club’s annual Turkey Trot fun run/walk will return to downtown Vashon at 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving and begin in the parking lot next to the Vashon Recess Lab and Voice of Vashon.
The 2.5 mile fun run/walk is free and open to furry friends and strollers. There will be music, snacks and hot cider and an award for the best holiday costume. Everyone is welcome, and a small contribution to the Vashon Maury Island Community Food Bank is suggested. Visit vashonfoodbank.org to find out what is most needed. Those who would like to help set up, mark the course, accompany runners and walkers or tear down after the run should leave a message on the Vashon Running Club’s Facebook page.
At 10 a.m., soccer players of all ages will gather for community soccer games at the VES Fields. It is free to play in the annual Turkey Bowl and meant to be a good time or all. Just show up with some soccer cleats, and join in a friendly game or two.
