Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal is opening the new year with a Vashon town hall meeting at 6:30 next Tuesday at the Open Space for Arts & Community.

The town hall is an opportunity for constituents to raise concerns, learn what actions are being taken in Congress and discuss the path ahead as we move into the new year.

This is the first of multiple town halls Jayapal plans to host in 2018 across Washington’s 7th District. Last year, Jayapal hosted eight town halls throughout the district and three tele-town halls over the phone.

One of the town halls Jayapal conducted was on Vashon last April. At the time, she noted that Vashon was a “huge stronghold” for her in the November 2016 election. She was focusing her efforts then on President Trump’s immigration orders as well as on heath care and the environment. Recently, she has criticized Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ change in policy of non-interference with state marijuana laws and condemned Pres. Trump’s decisions to deport 200,000 Salvadorans and open up offshore drilling.

Washington’s 7th Dist-rict, which Jayapal represents, encompasses most of Seattle and surrounding areas, including Vashon, Lake Forest Park, Shoreline, Edmonds and parts of Burien and Normandy Park.

She serves on the House Judiciary Committee and the Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security. She is also the Vice Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee and the First Vice Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
