A ribald night promised at Burlesco Notturno

Burlesco Notturno, an evening of song, dance and burlesque, will be back on Saturday, Oct. 13, at Open Space for Arts & Community. Doors for the show open at 7 p.m., with the show starting at 8 p.m.
A press release said that audiences can once again expect “sensual delight, ribald jokes and jaw-dropping performances” as well as “bumps and grinds from burlesque’s golden age” at the show.
The night will be hosted by the talented founders of Open Space, with Janet McAlpin appearing as the exquisitely costumed and stilted Mme. X, and David Godsey taking a comic turn as her bumbling, silent lawyer. A Seattle band, The Love Markets, will play lively caberet music throughout the evening.
The show’s lineup will include many well-known acts, including The Atomic Bombshells, founded by original members of the Shim Sham Revue in New Orleans’ historic French Quarter. Other performers will include Kitten ’N Lou, an act that combines extensive burlesque, theater and dance performance credits. Ruby Mimosa, a fourth-generation Hawaiian who was brought up on hula, ballet and gymnastics, will also perform.
Other special guests of the night include Paris Original and spICE.
“Burlesco Notturno is delightfully counter-culture and subversive, just like Vashon,” said McAplin. “It’s an invitation to experience the joy of life, what the French call joie de vivre.”
Advance tickets are $30 and $35 at the door. Tables can be reserved for $40 per person. VIP tickets can be purchased for $75 and include a reserved table, free signature cocktail, chilled bottle of prosecco or wine per four guests, and ambrosial food from Bramble House chef Lia Lira.
Due to the adult-themed nature of the performance, Burlesco Notturno is for ages 21 and older only. For more information and tickets, visit openspacevashon.com.
