First Saturday Group for parents grieving the death of a child

Please join other parents for a supportive gathering. This is an opportunity to be seen by others who share in our collective grief. Some quotations from attendees include: “It always makes me feel seen and heard and that I am not alone in this journey.” “Seeing all the ways that we grieve and knowing that it is all normal, is so helpful.”

The gathering takes place 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at Dockton Park’s covered area. Bring a chair, something to keep you warm and a picture of your child if you wish.

For more information contact Susan at 206-818-4232 or pitiger@comcast.net, or Alissa at 808-783-0626 or alissaarp@gmail.com.

Community compost plans move forward

King County’s Solid Waste Division has been working with Zero Waste Vashon and other island partners to consider the costs and benefits of processing organic waste produced by Vashon, on Vashon. This work has included a recently completed Vashon Organics Processing Feasibility Study and a community survey to learn more about public opinion on the topic.

The Solid Waste Division will host a public meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, on Zoom. Find the Zoom link at zerowastevashon.org. Attendees will hear an overview of the feasibility study, the results of the community survey, and some potential options for future projects. Project staff will also answer questions from the public and discuss potential next steps for Vashon Island organics processing.

Recycle plastics and styrofoam

Zero Waste Vashon will hold its regular First Sunday Plastics and Styrofoam Recycling event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, June 5, at the Sheffield Bldg., 18850 103rd Ave SW. Consider consolidating loads with your friends and neighbors to help reduce lines and long waits.
