Strawberry Festival is always fun, but even better when you plan your days out carefully.

Here are some details to keep in mind:

In preparation for the weekend’s festivities, Vashon Highway will be closed from 3 p.m. Friday, July 15 until 4 p.m. Sunday, July 17.

The King County Water Taxi will also run on Saturday, July 16, from downtown Seattle to Vashon, for this year’s Strawberry Festival.

The schedule, from downtown Seattle to Vashon, is 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., on the hour. For islanders who want to go downtown on Saturday, a rare water taxi ride is possible: the schedule from Vashon to Seattle is 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., on the half-hour.

Metro buses will be available to pick up passengers at the Vashon ferry dock for each arrival to take passengers into town.

Trash and recycling bins will be stationed across the festival area as well, and Journeymen, as well as other volunteers, are providing clean-up support for this year’s festival.

Island businesses and other organizations in town are hosting rest stations throughout the duration of this year’s Festival, aimed at helping islanders cool down, stay hydrated and experience downtime in the midst of the bustling festival.

Windermere Vashon is sponsoring a misting station and a private changing station, and will also hand out water bottles in its parking lot.

The Vashon Presbyterian Church is hosting a family rest and play area on the church’s front lawn, and its side-yard playground will be open as well, on Friday, July 15, and Saturday, July 16.

Families will be able to fill their water bottles, use the church’s restrooms, nurse their babies inside the church, and play games. The front lawn will have giant Jenga, corn hole, bubbles, and sidewalk chalk.

The church is also offering limited parking and front lawn chairs for the Strawberry Festival parade on Saturday, July 16.

Parking and chairs are by reservation only.

There is no fee, but donations for this convenience will be accepted and forwarded to the DOVE Project and Vashon Youth and Family Services.

Make reservations by e-mailing Bob Spangler, at rwspang@centurytel.net, stating how many parking spots and seats are requested.
