Havurah Bash postponed

The Vashon Havurah has postponed its annual community bash and fundraiser, due to the death of its beloved member, Philip Cushman. The event, originally set for this weekend, will instead take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, on the Havurah grounds, at 15401 Westside Hwy. SW, and will be dedicated to Cushman.

Labor Day Styro

Bring styrofoam and plastic waste to the next First Sunday Styrofoam and Plastics Recycling Event, from 10 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, at the Sheffield Building, 18850 103rd Ave SW. Calling all pickleballers

Vashon Golf and Country Club has lined its two tennis courts to accommodate four pickleball courts and is offering the courts to players from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, and from 2 to 5 p.m. on Friday.

These days and times will be available for the month of September only on a drop-in basis, with no charge to play. Players need to bring their own paddles and balls. Conversation about Caregiving

Jonathan Prescott, chaplain, pastoral counselor and founder of Wise Caregiving, will present a free talk, “A Wise Conversation About Balance and Boundaries, from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at Puget Sound Zen Center, 18005 Vashon Highway. Harvest Party

Vashon Adventures is hosting a family-friendly Harvest Party with music by Mark Wagner, games, pie and a raffle to raise money for the Vashon Food Bank. The free event, at Blue Moon Farm, 16018 91st Ave., will take place from 5 to 7 p.m Wednesday, Sept. 7. There will be a raffle ($25 per ticket) for a $300 Vashon Adventures gift card.

VIVA Picnic

Vashon Island Visual Artists (VIVA) will host its annual picnic for members and prospective members from 12 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at Open Space for Arts & Community. Find out more at vivartists.com.

Restorative Justice talk

A webinar, “Ending Mass Incarceration in Washington State,” will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, on Zoom.

Presenters will include attorney Larry Jefferson, executive director of the Washington State Office of Public Defense, and attorney David Trieweiler, director of the End Mass Incarceration Project for the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
