Scene and Heard: Smiles fill town last weekend

Last Friday, Vashon Theatre’s owners, the Wolcott family, unveiled their newly tiled “Walk of Fame” entryway to the theater, and then invited those who had contributed to the fundraiser inside for the sentimental pleasure of watching the ultimate 1980s feel-good movie, “Field of Dreams.”

But before the film unspooled, the gathered crowd witnessed the thrill of a real-life love story — Jake Wolcott’s surprise proposal, on bended knee, to his girlfriend, Becca Meyers.

The next night, Vashon welcomed in the holiday season with Winterfest — a joyous annual community celebration, complete with an old-fashioned parade.
