Lelavision, a Vashon-based multi-media performance, arts education, and production organization, held an art care residence over the recent spring break, from March 27 to April 7, to assist artists and young people who were displaced by the earthquakes and flooding in eastern Turkey in February.

In total, the earthquakes and flooding in Turkey have displaced about 850,000 people.

The company raised money and distributed donations to charities that had been approved by Turkish artists.

Those funds were used to help with the creation of a Needs Map by actor Mert Firat, of Istanbul, for providing direct needs-based assistance, as well as the creation of a new summer camp for the Didem Koban Dance Arts Center, headed by Didem Koban and Suleyman Demirkoll.

Additional funds were raised to support the establishment of the Children’s Art Platform, founded by a collective of artists from all over Turkey, to provide programs to youth displaced by the earthquakes. It’s home base will be Mordem Sanat, Diyarbakir.

In addition, at the Peoples Art Center (Mordem Sanat), in the city of Diyarbakir, where over 200,000 people are currently displaced, Lelavision conducted workshops with staff, neighborhood art students, and young people.
