Senior Center
The Vashon Senior Center, at 10004 Bank Rd., serves a hot lunch at 12 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and offers multiple activities throughout each week. See a complete list at vashoncenter.org.
Upcoming highlights include a talk by Sally Jean Fox, at 12:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, “Awakening the Artist in All of Us.”
Seattle Theatre Group’s Dance for Parkinson’s Disease (STG Dance for PD) will present a class from 1:15-2:30 p.m. in the Ober Park exercise room, in partnership with the Senior Center. Methodology for the classes was developed by Mark Morris Dance Group and Brooklyn Parkinson’s Group.
The Center will hold a birthday lunch for members from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, with members who have birthdays in December eating free. Make a reservation by calling 206-463-5173.
The Center will be closed Dec 25-27. and Dec 31-Jan 2, reopening on Jan. 3.
Family Day at Museum
Vashon Heritage Museum will offer extended open hours, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, for “Mammoth Moments Family Day.”
Bring the whole family to visit Tusky the Mammoth and take part in other Solstice-themed activities including crafts, story times, and other all-ages fun. Find out more at vashonheritagemuseum.org.
Brown Briefly
This November, the Vashon-Maury Community Council (V-MCC) completed the election of new board members for its 2025-2026 term. Four women are currently serving in this leadership role. Join Brown Briefly hosts Truman O’Brien, Bruce Haulman, Kevin Jones, Craig Beles and Amy Drayer at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, on Voice of Vashon, 101.9FM, to hear V-MCC Board members Jessica Anakar, Ann Thorn and Nicole Erica Àine discuss what’s next for the Community Council.
New Year’s Eve
Open Space for Arts & Community will host a New Year’s Eve bash and dance party, with hourly confetti drops celebrating midnight all over the world, starting at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31. Bowie/Rex & His Boogie Army will headline the evening, with Cheap Scenery as the opening band. Business of Caregiving
The Vashon Care Network will present a free session at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, on the business aspects of hiring a caregiver. Deborah Diamond, an IRS expert and business consultant, will provide practical information for both care seekers and caregivers; employers and employees. This is a hybrid session — islanders can attend in person at the Vashon Senior Center or participate via Zoom. The Zoom meeting ID is 8980515 9633, and the passcode is 906455.
