Calling all island quilters for new show

Vashon Center for the Arts is accepting quilt entries for “Vashon Island Quilt Exhibition,” slated to open Friday, March 2, at the Koch Gallery.

Quilts of all types — personal, community, vintage and contemporary — may be entered in the juried show.

Koch Gallery Manager Devin Grimm said that quilts, like other art forms, “provide a creative medium for fabric artists to communicate a message, tell a story and evoke conversations. Historically, quilts were created by hand for practical reasons. Today, quilting has evolved into a medium for artistic expression. One constant is the role quilts play in American art history. It is this rich history and variety of techniques currently explored by local fabric artists that will be on exhibit during the show.”
