As an adult, parent and grandparent, I am embarrassed to tell my children that it is up to them to protect themselves while attending school.

I am embarrassed that my Oreo cookies have my attention more than school safety.

I am embarrassed that it took the raw emotion and passion of Emma Gonzalez to awaken my feelings of impotence and numbness to the fear that students who watched her friends and school mates die in a mass shooting at her high school last month. (Google her name, Emma Gonalez, for more information.)

There is an organized march in Washington, D.C., Saturday, March 24. Children are organizing to tell the government to solve the problem of school shootings.

Can you imagine that? We are letting our children solve an adult problem.

I would like to offer financial help to anyone who wants to go march in Washington, D.C. and is hesitating for financial reasons. If anyone shares my feelings and wants to contribute, we could set up a travel fund at a bank. The Puget Sound Cooperative Credit Union has explained to me how to do it. I have put $100 in the fund so far. Give me a call.
