ISLAND ARTS OFF THE ROCK

Artwork by Vashon artists Ilse Reimnitz and Brian Fisher has been selected for The Printmaker’s Hand 4 Exhibit, sponsored by Corvidae Press. The juried show of contemporary printmakers will show traditional and new technical approaches. The juror is Bob Kochs of August Gallery in Portland, Oregon. The show will be on view July 5 to 29 at Northwind Arts Center in Port Townsend.

KIDS SHAKE UP A SHOW

Shakeskids students will take an outdoor stage for two rollicking performances of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at 7 p.m. Friday, June 29, and 3 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at Ober Park. Teacher/director Aimee Nicole Lewis van Roekel leads the popular youth theater program at Vashon Center for the Arts, offering kids the chance to study and perform the works of the Bard. POULTRY IN MOTION AT VCA

In partnership with Vashon Center for the Arts, Vashon Events now showcases a free series of local bands at the Katherine L. White Theater. Next up in the series, the island group Poultry in Motion will play at 8 p.m. Friday, July 6, at VCA. Band members — who describe their group as “a drinking club with a music problem,” are Wilson Abbott, Steve Amsden, Chris Anderson, Gib Dammann, Bob Kueker and Dave Lang. They play music ranging from country to Cajun, Swamp Rock and Folk.

SCULPTURE AT JUDD CREEK RANCH

A show of indoor and outdoor sculpture and ceramics is now on display at Judd Creek Ranch Gallery, located at 22237 103rd Ave. SW. The gallery is open from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, and can also be seen on the First Friday art walk on June 6. Artists in the show include Barbara Wells, Eric Nelsen, Andy Ruble, Hans Nelsen, Doug Lawrie and Jim Wayne.

SUMMER ARTSFEST SET TO LAUNCH

Vashon Center for the Arts will present its first annual free two-month Summer ArtsFest, opening 5:30 p.m. Friday, July 6, and running through Aug. 26 at VCA. The fest will showcase and sell artwork by more than 80 local visual artists in more than 45 individual and collaborative exhibits, workshops and demonstrations. New shows will open each Friday, except July 20. Participatory and music events will also be sprinkled into the mix each Friday and Saturday.

TIMELY SHOW coming TO VCA

Vashon Center for the Arts has issued a call for art for “#MyMeToo,” an October show open to all people who would like to use the visual arts to explore responses to sexual assault and harassment. First consideration will be given to those who complete an “Intent to Submit” form at bit.ly/MyMeToo by a July 30 deadline. The show will offer two cash prizes to artists. In a lead up to the show, VCA will offer four free workshops for those ages 16 to adults who are interested in using the arts to explore the themes and conversations relating to the #MeToo movement. Participants, who must register in advance, will have the option of including their completed artwork in the gallery show. Written work can be included in the show as a stand-alone piece or incorporated into visual artwork. Workshops will include two writing workshops, “Making the Personal Private,” from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, and “How Movements Become Movement,” from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 14. Another workshop, “Collage: A Practice in Truth-Telling,” will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4.
