Go fly a kite

Kite Day at Point Robinson will be from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 24. The annual event often brings out many kite-lovers, filling the sky with color and whimsy.

This year’s event will also include tours of the lighthouse, live music and the opportunity to purchase nautical items, as well as kites, from the Point Robinson Ship’s Store.

Board to look at PTSA survey

The Vashon Island School District board of directors will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, May 22, at Courthouse Square.

Superintendent Terry Lindquist will give a report on a PTSA survey, the district’s financial outlook and next year’s budget, among other things.

The board will discuss a proposal to close the high school campus to students all day — meaning no trips to Zoomies for lunch.

The board will also decide the fate of building “C” at Vashon High School — whether to demolish it or include it in plans for the high school’s future.

Road closure on west Maury

Hake Road S.W. will be closed in the 27600 block from Tuesday, May 27, through Friday, June 20. Winter storms of the past two years have caused significant damage to the roadway, located along the western side of Maury Island.

The King County Road Services Division will be rebuilding the sub-surface of the road, repaving the surface and rebuilding the shoulder. During the repairs, the road will be open only to local residents.

Workshop for shoreline owners

The workshop will focus on key issues, including how to stabilize natural shorelines, reduce the risk of bluff erosion and landslides and improve fish and wildlife habitat.

The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at the Land Trust Building at 10014 S.W. Bank Rd.
