Don’t miss events including a concert by virtuoso pianist Evren Ozel, the Bronze Medalist of the 2025 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, on Oct. 4, at Vashon Center for the Arts.

The Voice

Join Voice of Vashon at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, at the station’s Jean Bosch Studio, to celebrate voices and song and enroll contestants for its upcoming contest, The Voice. Singers using backing tracks, accompaniment, or singing a cappella are welcome.

The night will open with Havilah Rand’s lush vocal stylings. Rand has written hundreds of songs with youth and elders, cultivating creativity and curating the legacy of everyday heroes through song and was named as Judges’ Choice in the 2024 edition of The Voice.

Rocky Horror film

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3 at Vashon Theatre.

Come see the cult film as it was meant to be seen with dancing, singing, a costume contest and raucous audience participation, accompanied by a live performance of The Riff Raff’s Street Rats.

Jam in the Atrium

Two legendary women of Northwest jazz, vocalist Greta Matassa and vibraphonist Susan Pascal, will join host and bassist Bruce Phares from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, for the monthly free “Jam in the Atrium” jazz series at Vashon Center for the Arts.

Matassa has been voted eight times as the best jazz vocalist in the Northwest by readers of Earshot Jazz Magazine and was inducted into the Seattle Jazz Hall of Fame in 2014, receiving a lifetime achievement award. She has released 11 critically acclaimed albums, garnering an international following that has flocked to her concerts in Singapore, Russia and Japan. She is also a revered jazz vocal educator who has also traveled the world to teach.

Pascal, a 2025 Earshot Jazz Hall Of Fame award winner, is lauded for her superb four-mallet musicality and masterful improvisational skills. She, too, has traveled the world to perform and teach. She has appeared as a special guest artist with the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra, the Seattle Baroque Orchestra, Seattle’s Gypsy jazz group, Pearl Django and her own jazz group, the Susan Pascal Quartet.

Evren Ozel

American virtuoso pianist Evren Ozel will play a concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Vashon Center for the Arts.

Ozel has been described as “an absolute wow” (Third Coast Review) and “an artist capable of lifting everyone to another level” (LaScena Musicale). His debut album — Mozart concertos recorded with the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and conductor Howard Griffiths — was released in 2025.

Ozel is the Bronze Medalist of the 17th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition (2025), where he also received the special prize for the Best Performance of a Mozart Concerto. Ozel has performed extensively throughout the country and internationally, and is the recipient of a 2023 Avery Fisher Career Grant and a 2022 Salon de Virtuosi Career Grant. He is currently represented by Concert Artists Guild as an Ambassador Prize Winner of the 2021 Victor Elmaleh Competition.

His program on Vashon will include works by Domenico Scarlatti, Ludwig van Beethoven, Béla Bartó, Gabriel Fauré and Robert Schumann.

Shawn Colvin

Shawn Colvin, a three-time Grammy winner who has has established herself as a captivating performer and a revered storyteller, will play a concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at Vashon Center for the Arts.

She has released 13 albums, is an inductee of the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame, recipient of Americana Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Trailblazer Award, written a critically acclaimed memoir and maintained a non-stop national and international touring schedule which now bring her to Vashon for a special evening of song and stories.

Alejandro Escovedo

For more than four decades, Alejandro Escovedo has been redefining what it means to be a rock troubadour — blending punk roots, heartfelt storytelling and a sound that’s all his own. At 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, he brings his acclaimed voice to Vashon Center for the Arts for first time.

Born in San Antonio and long based in Austin, Escovedo first galvanized audiences with pioneering punk outfit The Nuns, roots-rock heroes Rank & File and cult favorites True Believers before embarking on a journey Rolling Stone hails as “one of the most compelling in modern music.” His newest collection, “Echo Dancing” (Yep Roc, 2024), reimagines gems from his songbook, underscoring why NPR dubbed him “a rock-and-roll shaman.”

Pete Droge

Acclaimed island singer and songwriter Pete Droge will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Seattle’s Triple Door, at 216 Union Street

The evening will celebrate the double vinyl deluxe reissue of Droge’s debut album, “Necktie Second.” The set will also lean heavily on material from his new studio album, “Fade Away Blue.” Recorded with Grammy-winning producer Paul Bryan, the collection is largely autobiographical, built on a series of dreamy, cinematic snapshots from throughout Droge’s life.

Skeleton Crew

Rob Barraco (Dark Star Orchestra), Barry Sless (Bob Weir and Wolf Bros), and Stephen Inglis (Fragile Thunder) make up Skeleton Crew, a trio of jam-band virtuosos. Their collaboration incorporates musical traditions: mastery of Hawaiian slack key guitar (Inglis is a recipient of the prestigious Ki Hōʻalu Legacy Award); the pioneering pedal steel work of Sless, which has graced stages with Bob Weir and Phil Lesh, and Barraco’s keyboard artistry which has earned him a place in The Dead’s lineup. CHRCH

Vashon’s favorite variety show, “CHRCH” (pronounced “church”) will bow its latest edition at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at Open Space for Arts & Community.

Debbie Dimitre as Eleanor Roosevelt

Talented Northwest storyteller Debbie Dimitre will present an afternoon show at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Vashon Presbyterian Church.

In this fundraiser for a local chapter of the philanthropic organization, P.E.O., supporting scholarships for girls on Vashon among other causes, Dimitre will portray First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, one of the first delegates to the United Nations in 1945 and a peaceful warrior for human rights.

Tickets are $20 at the door and can also be purchased from P.E.O. members.

Rocky Horror on stage

Mark your calendars for Vashon Repertory Theatre’s production of Richard O’Brien’s “The Rocky Horror Show,” with performance set for Oct. 24, 25, 26, 30, 31 and Nov. 1, at Vashon Center for the Arts.

The humorous tribute to horror and sci-fi B movies has become a cult classic, telling the story of a newly engaged couple getting caught in a storm and coming to the home of a mad scientist, Dr Frank-N-Furter, unveiling his new creation, Rocky — a sort of Frankenstein-style monster in the form of a fully grown, physically perfect muscle man.

Nomadic Dance Classes

No dance partners are necessary for the following upcoming dance classes presented by Nomadic Dance.

Choreography for “Thriller” takes place from 6-6:50 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 30-Oct. 28. Learn the infamous Zombie dance by Michael Jackson and company in this five-week series for all levels of students. The class has a sliding scale $10-$20, and is for ages 14- adult.

Argentine tango classes will be held from 6-6:50 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 1-29. This beginner class costs $25 per person.

Salsa II, an intermediate class, takes place from 7-7:50 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 1-December 10, and costs $25 per person. Social Dancing 1010 will take place from 6-:6:50 p.m. Wednesdays, Nov. 5-Dec. 10. This beginner class takes cost $25 per person.
