At the Jan. 22, 2026, school board meeting, Vashon Partners in Education presented a “big check” for $66,904, representing the total amount of PIE grants awarded to Vashon Island School District teachers for the 2025-26 school year. PIE awarded 56 grants to teachers throughout the district.
The grants will provide hands-on learning materials and experiences to students from pre-K through 12th grade in virtually every discipline, including music, art, science, math, social studies, reading, English as a second language and physical education.
PIE also presented its annual “PIE Awards” to four teachers who submitted the board’s favorite grants of the year. The 2025 PIE Award winners were Mary Lawrence of Family Link; Kate Davidson, representing the CES first-grade team; Stephanie Detwiler, eighth-grade social studies; and Jenn Coe, VHS Future Business Leaders Club. Each teacher received a home-baked pie as the award.
