All are welcome at the gatherings | Letter to the Editor

Perhaps the fourth Sunday Continuing Conversations need some explanation. These conversations grew out of the need to talk more about various subjects aired by visitor speakers some years back at the Vashon Unitarian Fellowship.

Perhaps the fourth Sunday Continuing Conversations need some explanation. These conversations grew out of the need to talk more about various subjects aired by visitor speakers some years back at the Vashon Unitarian Fellowship.

The subjects ranged from raising chickens to death with dignity, and I opened my house so we could have at it. This has continued for four or five years now. Islanders come and share their beliefs and their occupations, and we get acquainted. We all learn about each other and are amazed by the width and depth of intellect, wisdom, empathy and passion we islanders have.

The people who come are not all Unitarians. They are Quakers, Methodists, Presbyterians, Christian Scientists, Buddhists, seculars, Democrats, Republicans and Libertarians. All are welcome. Who knows which is more important — the subject or the conviviality? Check The Beachcomber calendar for the subject to be discussed, or bring your own.

It’s always good to know your neighbors.
