County service center move doesn’t add up | Letter to the Editor

Relative to last week’s news story “County plans to move the service center to Vashon town,” I must be missing something in the article. The county is going to spend $700,000 to save five years worth of rent which equals $142,560. It will take a long time at a reduced rent to recoup the additional $557,440.

This seems like fiscal insanity. If the county needs the building to be ADA compliant, they should negotiate with the building’s owner. The county just told us they do not have any money to upgrade the juvenile corrections facility but they can waste money on a facility move?
