Fall from horse is a reminder

My sincere thanks to the Vashon community for showing support for me after a nasty fall from my horse in September along 220th Street (“Woman seriously injured when car spooks horse,” Sept. 17).

My sincere thanks to the Vashon community for showing support for me after a nasty fall from my horse in September along 220th Street (“Woman seriously injured when car spooks horse,” Sept. 17). I am on my way to a full recovery and may be riding again as soon as January. A special thanks to those who contributed through the Susan McLain Recovery Fund  set up by Beth Anne Freiling.

Lisa DeFaccio and Henry Perrin instigated signs that read “Vashon shares the road with horses, bikes and pedestrians.” They will be installed near both ferry terminals early next year. I hope this makes the roadways safer for everyone!

I also hope many of you will remind your friends that when passing an equestrian, slow down and move over. Leave plenty of space between you and the horse. Don’t speed up until you can see the horse and rider safely in your rear-view mirror.
