Islanders to lock doors, store valuables, be vigilant

Sadly, after living on Vashon Island for 30 years, my husband and I have been forced to install an alarm system on our home.

In the past month, I have discovered that someone has entered my home twice and stolen my most valuable and sentimental jewelry. This jewelry was not worn often, but each piece was a special gift that I was saving for my granddaughters. Now I will not get to experience the joy of sharing not only a special piece with each granddaughter, but the loving story behind each. To whoever stole these pieces, you did not just steal the jems, gold and silver, you stole my memories both present and future.

Since this discovery, I have spoken to two other people on Vashon who have experienced the same type of loss. The thief just steals fine jewelry; there is no forced entry, nothing else is stolen, and the scene is left in as-is condition.

This letter is to warn the community that we must be vigilant regarding theft of our personal property. Lock your doors, put your valuables in a safe place and keep a close eye on your neighborhood. I am offering a $1,000 reward for the return of my stolen items, no questions asked.
