Motorcycle club appreciates the Island’s support | Letter to the Editor

The Vintage Motorcycle Enthusiasts (VME) would like to thank the Vashon-Maury Island community for supporting our 29th annual old bike rally, known as the Isle of Vashon TT.

Thanks to the event’s considerable reputation and ideal weather, we noticed an increase in the number of motorcycles on the Island this year.

As many of you know, we limit advertising the event’s date and only post it in the VME club newsletter a month before the ride. Prior to the TT, we notify the ferry system and local restaurants. Safe riding and observing all traffic regulations are strongly emphasized on the registration form. Our intent is to keep this a low-key event where the main theme is vintage motorcycles.

The numerous VME members who live on the Island take particular pride in this activity, which is enjoyed by both participants and the community. The VME has contributed to the community over the years by donating to the Vashon Maury Community Food Bank, including $500 for this year’s event, and through the adoption of Cemetery Road, where we participate in King County’s road cleanup.

The Isle of Vashon TT also benefits the Vashon Grappler’s Society, which provides food services at the Sportsmen’s Club, where we value being able to rent their wonderful facility each year.

Over the past 29 years we have never experienced any serious motorcycling incidents and pride ourselves in the manner this large event has been safely managed. We hope you enjoyed this year’s Isle of Vashon TT as much as we did.
