New program is a win for all

As a member of VIGA’s Food Access Partnership, I was delighted with the thoroughness of Susan Riemer’s article (“Effort will get local produce on more plates,” April 29).

For those who’ve expressed some confusion about our program, I want to clarify that the partnership allots coupons to island non-profits so that staff can give them directly to clients and/or use them to purchase food for client meal preparation.

I also want to take this opportunity to invite you all to our Guest Bartender Night fundraiser, May 7, from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Hardware Store Restaurant, where your donations and purchases will help fund our efforts to increase access of locally sourced food to low-income islanders.

It’s a win-win for all: neighbors in need, local farmers and everyone who embraces our community. We welcome online donations at vigavashon.org.
