Theo Krah did the right thing and I commend him for it. His instincts were correct. The individual he told to leave the public pool may not have a criminal record, but he is known for unwelcome, intimidating and, frankly, creepy behavior toward several young women on the Island at establishments other than the athletic club and the public pool.
It was with great sadness that we of Vashon Island Fire and Rescue received the sad news that our friend and brother, firefighter Robert Bennedsen, a graduate of Vashon High School and Seattle University, was killed this weekend in Afganistan.

Before Tom Stewart (yes, there was a time before the Mighty Fireworks Show) the evening of Independence Day was filled with the muffled sounds of scattered, home-purchased fireworks, both legal and not-so-legal. The zing of pinwheels, the spinning fire of ground blooms, even the whistle and pop of noise-only fireworks, these were the accompaniment to neighborhood and family picnics.
