I have recently returned to Vashon with my husband and our four children. We chose Vashon in part because of the schools. As a parent I like to know whom my kids are hanging out with, who the parents of each student are and where they live. Vashon provides both excellent schools and a tight community. We support school levies and pay plenty in taxes to live here.
Ten years ago, my son and I moved to Vashon. My son, now 17, recently competed and won first in the state for multiple percussion, an endeavor that started in earnest last November but in all fairness began years ago during his early years at Chautauqua Elementary School

I want to make the community aware of what has resulted from the decision to ban the grinding style of dancing at Vashon High School dances. School dances — something that students have looked forward to and attended in large numbers — are headed toward extinction. The annual spring prom last weekend was cancelled because only a few tickets were sold. The tolo dance in February was sparsely attended and a big money loser for the school, despite expensive entertainment alternatives like laser tag and a video game bus.
