Vehicle was towed after parking for too long | Letter to the Editor

Our truck was towed off-island last month from the lower section of the north-end ferry parking lot. The tires were marked, a notice was appended and then the vehicle was removed a week later.

We are writing to let our fellow islanders know that the 48-hour limit in the lower lot, as well as the two-week limit in the upper lot, can be enforced at any time at the discretion of the officer on patrol. Don’t assume that because you have exceeded these limits in the past without incident that you won’t come back to the island one night and find your vehicle missing.

The sheriff’s office is working hard to establish a legal place on the island to where impounded vehicles can be towed, but until this happens, please know that the cost of retrieving one’s vehicle is extraordinary due to off-island towing fees plus daily storage fees.
