Visitors affect residents who prefer Vashon’s quiet nature

I wonder the age and years of residency of the person who wrote the editorial telling us all to be grateful for the massive influx of people to our home last weekend

I wonder the age and years of residency of the person who wrote the editorial telling us all to be grateful for the massive influx of people to our home last weekend (Locals will benefit from big weekend’s fundraisers, Sept. 16).

The opinion piece, given space only as a function of his/her position at the newspaper, was completely dismissive of legitimate concerns about how tourism impacts those of us who choose to live here for the Vashon of not so ancient memory. Yes, change is constant. Yes, “progress” means a new performing arts building (another subject) and more people, events and cars.

Instead of scolding us for being ungrateful, perhaps the editor might next write a piece about how all island events could provide shuttles from the dock with a stop at town for souvenirs and a picnic lunch. Those of us who live here could then make it home and, of course, be thankful that there is a store or two open to get a beer.
