Vashon Events will present its third annual showcase of local musicians this weekend. The theme — “Hits of the 60s Showcase” — will feature music from the 1960s beginning at 8 p.m. Friday at the Red Bike.

Islanders are invited back in time to the freewheeling decade of the 1960s for a nostalgic tour of music from that era.

“These songs are extremely nostalgic for most people,” said Pete Welch of Vashon Events. “And when our favorite local musicians bring them back to life, it can be very emotional.”

More than 30 Vashon musicians will perform at the Bike, playing the tunes close to the originals or interpreting them in a unique style.

“Musicians either play the tune as close to the original as possible, or interpret the song in their own unique style.  Either way, it’s one of those concerts where audiences stop talking and lean into the music, anticipating the next note,” Welch said. “For musicians, it can be very fulfilling when an audience listens to the music in this way.”
