At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, the Vashon Havurah will welcome a stellar Irish fiddle duo — Nathan Gourley and Laura Feddersen, hailing from Boston, Massachusetts. Their playing is steeped in the lifelong study of the Irish musical tradition and is at the same time colored by their American roots.

The pair have developed a distinctive style of twin fiddling, sometimes playing in taut unison, sometimes exploring chordal harmonies and rhythmic and melodic variations. They will be joined by Brian Miller on guitar.

For a reservation, contact Jan Strolle at 206-228-0730 or janstrolle@comcast.net. Donations of $20 to $25 are appreciated. The Vashon Havurah is located at 1501 Westside Highway SW.

Book reading

In his recently published new book, “The Breathable Body: Transforming Your World and Your Life, One Breath at a Time,” islander Robert Litman shares the insights and practices he has discovered over more than 30 years as a breathing and movement educator.

Two book readings and signings will take place at a private home on Vashon at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4. Seating is limited, please call the host, Patti Hanmer, at 1-206-819-5420 to make a reservation.

“This loving book comes from the heart of the love of a daring explorer of the mysteries of the body,” said Lorin Roche, author of The Radiance Sutras. “Open anywhere and be reminded how delicious it can be to simply take a breath.”

For more than 30 years, Robert Litman has guided artists, musicians, health professionals, athletes, activists, asthmatics, and countless others to restore healthy breathing rhythms, structural alignment, and coordinated movement.
