Beloved Vashon artist Eggleston will be joined by songwriter and vocalist Joe Jencks.

In an upcoming concert, beloved Vashon singer/songwriter/theater-maker Kat Eggleston will be joined by her friend Joe Jencks, an award-winning songwriter and celebrated vocalist based in the Chicago area.

The concert happens at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at the Vashon Havurah, at 15401 Westside Hwy SW. There is a suggested donation of $20.

“Joe and I have been friends for several years now, we’ve done some shows here and there, traveled a tiny bit, and he’s recorded two songs of mine that I haven’t gotten around to recording yet,” said Eggleston.

Eggleston, who was born and raised on Vashon, has performed and taught for more than 30 years, creating solo and collaborative recordings of original and traditional music that have been distributed worldwide.

As a theater artist, she appeared onstage in Chicago in acclaimed productions of “Woody Guthrie’s American Song” and “The Snow Queen,” composed by Michael P. Smith, the writer of such classic songs as “Spoon River” and “The Dutchman.”

She has also composed original music for Vashon Repertory Theatre’s productions of “Kissing the Joy as it Flies: The Wit and Wisdom of Brian Doyle,” and “Oscar’s Journey,” and wrote Vashon Rep’s acclaimed production of “The Cyclone Line.”

Jencks, known for delivering musical narratives filled with groove and grit, has penned several #1 folk songs, including “Lady of The Harbor.” His album, “Poets, Philosophers, Workers, and Wanderers,” earned the distinction of winning #1 artist, #1 album, and #1 song spots on the Folk Alliance/Folk DJ Chart, and spent several weeks at #1 on the Sirius XM Americana Chart.

He is also the musical director of an annual retreat, Warriors Heart to Art, writing songs with military veterans. A dual U.S.-Irish citizen, Jencks has served as a cultural ambassador with the U.S. State Department.
