Vashon Opera debuts ‘Barber’

Vashon Opera will present “The Barber of Seville” at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10 and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, at Vashon High School. The production boasts a constellation of regional opera stars as well as a chorus full of local singers. Tickets, $34 if purchased individually or $28 each when season tickets are purchased, are on sale at Books by the Way, Vashon Bookshop or www.vashonopera.org. In addition to regular performances, a dress rehearsal of the opera will be opened to students and families at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8. Tickets to the dress rehearsal, on sale at the book stores, are $15.

Long Lost performs at the Bike

Island drummer, percussionist and educator Todd Zimberg will reunite with two of his closest musician friends, guitarist Michael Gotz and bass player Keith Lowe, for a free, all-ages show at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at Red Bicycle Bistro . The trio, dubbed Long Lost, plays a lively mix of jazz, rock and blues.

A night of indie music at Café Luna

Singer/songwriters Paul Mauer and Karl Penn will play acoustic rock and folk music at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at Café Luna. Both musicians have a wealth of experience playing and recording music. Bosnian Blues comes to Vashon

Bosnian Blues, a ensemble of Bosnian musicians who fled their war-torn country in the mid-1990s and later reunited in Seattle, will perform a free concert of traditional sevdah, or Bosnian blues music, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at Vashon High School. The concert is being presented by Vashon Folkdancers and Vashon Park District.

Cargo Jam will play at the Bike

Cargo Jam, a band made up of Island musicians, will bring blues, funk and jazz to a free concert set for 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at Red Bicycle Bistro. The group plays original compositions along with a sprinkling of John Mayer, Eric Clapton and B.B. King covers. The show is for all ages until 11 p.m., and 21 and older after that.

Gypsy jazz comes to Luna

Billy and Grace Tea will bring vocals, fiddle, bass, guitar, saxophone, rattles, bells, slapsticks and shakers to a free concert of what they describe as “lyrical Gypsy jazz folk” music at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at Café Luna.
