Second First Friday is another chance to see art

The Hardware Store Restaurant will continue showing “V is for Vashon, The ABCs of Vashon Island,” paintings by Pam Ingalls.

PSCCU will continue showing work by Ann Leda Shapiro.

Two Wall Gallery will exhibit work by Harbor School students in grades four through eight and will hold an opening night reception at 6 p.m. Friday. Students worked with Harbor School faculty art teacher Alisara Martin to create relief prints using linoleum blocks. The exhibit will feature over 60 linocuts of Vashon iconography including water, trees, deer and ferries. Sale proceeds will support the school’s arts initiative.

VALISE will kick off the new year with “From Our Private Collections,” an exhibition of favorite works by VALISE artists. Some pieces are old, some new, but all typically hang at the artists’ homes or in private collections.

Vashon Allied Arts Gallery will present “The Cat Show.” Last January, gallery curator Janice Mallman received positive feedback about “The Dog Show” along with questions about VAA holding a similar cat show. One year later, the gallery’s invitational show features feline-inspired works by 14 island artists.

Vashon Community Care will show work by three island photographers — Lotus, Tom Conway and Peter Milovsoroff. Lotus grew up on the island and finds inspiration in the beauty of the Northwest. Tom Conway calls his show “Vashon Snowglobe” and reveals what he loves about Vashon Island. Peter Milovsoroff finds inspiration in the natural world and says he is learning to use the camera more as a paintbrush and less as a recording device.
