Calendar: holiday events

Senior center fun

Islanders are invited to join the folks at the Vashon Senior Center on Bank Road at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, for a warm holiday gathering in front of the fire — or the new fish tank.

Everyone is welcome to stop by and help string popcorn, play games and enjoy spiced cider and gingerbread cookies.

Those who would like to help by bringing treats should call the center at 463-5173.

Holiday market

The Vashon Farmers Market Holiday Market will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Village Green Saturday, Dec. 13.

Farmers will have Island-grown produce for holiday tables, and Island artisans will have a wide range of fine art, jewelry, woodwork, clothing, photography, tiles, cards and other goods available.

Shoppers can look for gifts under a large, heated circus style tent and may also enter to win a $200 basket of market vendor artisan goods.

This will be the last Vashon Farmers Market for the year.

For more information, call Market Manager Joanne Jewell at 267-8146.

Christmas supper

Vashon Island Community Church will host its annual Christmas Supper at noon Saturday, Dec. 13. The men of the church will serve the dinner.

Call the church at 463-3940 to reserve a place.

Kiwanis Toy Drive

People donating toys to the Kiwanis Toy Drive can drop them in one of the many bins at various Island merchants until Dec. 17.

Sing-along

The community sing-along will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, at Vashon Theatre. Get in the holiday spirit with Vashon’s annual holiday caroling.

‘The Messiah’

The Vashon Island Chorale will host a sing-along of Handel’s “Messiah” at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28 at the Vashon Methodist Church. Gary Cannon will conduct. A small orchestra, which Gaye Detzer is assembling, will also play. Any instrumentalist who would like to play may contact Detzer.

Everyone who loves to sing or who loves the “Messiah” is encouraged to come.

Bring your own vocal score if you have one, or copies may be borrowed or purchased ($7.95) at the door.

Admission is by free-will donation for the Vashon Maury Community Food Bank.
