Picnics in the Park returns

The Vashon Food Bank’s Picnics in the Park summer meals program began on Tuesday, June 21 and will run through Friday, August 26. This year, lunch service is being expanded from just Ober Park to include the Burton Area Recreation Center ( the BARC). Lunch will be served Monday – Friday at Ober Park from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and at the BARC from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Bring the family, have a picnic and participate in fun activities like face/body painting, story-time, skateboarding and more. Lunch hours will be subject to adjustment based on demand at each location, so follow the Vashon Food Bank on Facebook or Instagram, or check the website at vashonfoodbank.org for program updates.

Begin your own meditation practice

In this free online session held by the Puget Sound Zen Center, learn how meditation can help in troubling times, learn beginning Zen meditation basics and receive information on Puget Sound Zen Center’s online classes and retreats.The class, held via Zoom, will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 25. First Friday Night Market

Stop by the Vashon Theatre parking lot from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 1 for a First Friday Night Market. The event will feature 26 local artists and makers, along with a beer, wine and cider garden brought to you by the Vashon Theatre. Hot food will be available from Orca Eats and Aeggy’s. Enjoy live music from Blue Monster, an instrumental hard-funk band.

ECEAP Preschool enrolling for 2022-2023 school year

ECEAP (Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program), a free, state-funded program that provides high-quality childcare/preschool for families and children who qualify due to income and other factors, is now enrolling for the 2022-2023 school year.

ECEAP includes preschool education, health services coordination, and family support services. Students build the beginning skills for reading, math and science in a play-based and loving community. Two nutritious meals and a snack are provided every day. The program also works closely with parents to support their children’s health and education and helps families access medical and dental care and social services. Classroom communication is in Spanish and English.

The school takes place from 9:05 a.m. to 3:35 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Children ages 3 to 5 are able to enroll (with a three-year-old birthday by Aug. 31). To find out more and enroll, contact Bethany Stormer, at 206-658-3912 or bstormer@vashonsd.org.
