Vashon Beachcomber offers theatre tickets for photos

We hear a lot about how boring Vashon Island can be in the summer months for young people. Well, here’s something we’d like to ask those young people with access to a camera to do.

We hear a lot about how boring Vashon Island can be in the summer months for young people. Well, here’s something we’d like to ask those young people with access to a camera to do.

We need more photos at The Beachcomber — pictures that say something about our Island life, that capture an interesting moment, that give us another glimpse into what it means to live here. So we’d like people 18 or younger to take photos each week for the rest of the summer and submit a few favorites to us here at the newspaper.

We’ll select the best submission each week and place it in the paper. And that photographer, thanks to the generosity of Eileen Wolcott, owner of Vashon Theatre, will receive two free tickets to Vashon’s only movie house. Then, in September, Eileen will display the winning photos on the silver screen before that night’s feature presentation.

We’ll be looking for photos that are technically proficient (clear, bright and focused), artful, compositionally interesting or just plain fun. We’d like a caption that explains what’s happening in the photo. And in the off-chance that the young photographers are related to any of us here at The Beachcomber or are friends of the staff, we’ll bring in an impartial panel of judges to make the call.

Please send your photos to editor@vashonbeachcomber.com. And please participate. It’ll give you something to do.
