Vashon Community Pub and Smokehouse closes

The restaurant business opened in January.

Vashon Community Pub and Smokehouse, a pub in Vashon Village that also featured southern-style cuisine, closed last week.

The restaurant business, owned by Michaella Olavarri, opened in January under a sale and sublease agreement with Cliff Goodman, who had operated the Vashon Brewing Community Pub in the space since 2018.

Olavarri kept much of the decor of the pub’s indoor and outdoor spaces intact but added a menu of southern-style cuisine. She also continued Goodman’s practice of offering live music and open mic nights at the pub.

Formerly, Olavarri had owned Mica’s Kitchen a take-out eatery and bakery also located in Vashon’s town center.

In an interview, Olavarri said that business had been good at her new restaurant, but she could not come to an agreement for a new lease with Eagle Rock Ventures (ERV), the owner of Vashon Village.

Olavarri had been offered a one-year lease, but said, for financial reasons, she needed an option to renew the lease, which ERV declined to provide.

ERV owns multiple properties in Seattle. On Vashon, the company owns The Lodges and Vashon Village. Formerly, the company owned the Spinnaker Building, but sold that property to Sea Mar Community Health Centers in 2022.

Scott Shapiro, the principal of Eagle Rock Ventures, declined to comment on negotiations with Olavarri or future plans for the restaurant space.
