Edward Lynne Chandler

Edward Lynne Chandler, an islander since 1945 when he and his wife Gloria moved to the island, died suddenly the morning of Oct. 2, 2002. He was 88 years old.

Mr. Chandler was the only child of John Edward and Ella (Lynne) Chandler. He was born in St. Luke’s hospital (now Group Health Central) in Seattle on Jan. 5, 1914.

He was a graduate of the West Seattle High School class of 1931. During World War II, he was in the US Coast Guard Reserves.

His profession was that of a master mechanic and machinist. His special expertise was in putting together asphalt and crushing plants in places such as Alaska, Japan, Samoa and many more. Also, he was the one who designed, worked on and installed bag houses for these plants to curb environmental degradation.

The family remembers him as a loving family man, one who fixed most anything for many people on the island. His hobbies included building miniature steam engines, tractors and heavy machinery.

Survivors include two sons, Douglas Lynne Chandler and his wife Joyce of Seattle, Bob Chandler and his wife Sharon of Shelton; daughter Cathy Chandler of Vashon; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

There will be a family memorial at a later date.
