Emma “Kate” Caffey

Emma G. “Kate” Caffey of Vashon died Aug. 21, 2004, in Seattle. She was 69 years old.

She was born April 12, 1935, in Waco, Texas, and lived there until she moved to California.

Kate attended college in Oregon and earned her bachelor’s degree in Community Service and Public Affairs in 1972. Kate discovered Vashon Island in 1976 and made the Island her home.

She enjoyed water, music, animals, people and travel.

In 1985, she and her partner travelled around the world together.

Survivors include her life partner Reva Sparkes of Vashon, her sister Carol McPeak of Stockton, Calif. and a niece of Modesto, Calif.

A celebration of Kate’s life will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, at the Grange.

Lunch will be provided. Islanders are invited and are asked to bring their favorite Kate story.

Contributions can be made in Kate’s honor to the Vashon Senior Center.
