Boys’ soccer team rolls on, with continued success

The Pirates had their third overtime game this season.

Vashon High School (VHS) Varsity Boys’ soccer has continued its season with great success.

On April 18, the team traveled to Klahowya Secondary School. The Pirates dominated the game, only giving away a couple of shots to Klahowya, who failed to score. The Pirates, however, were able to put away four goals.

Senior captains Nick Zuckerman and Moses Trundle-Strachan, as well as senior Isaac Harrison, each had assists. Freshmen Isaac Newcomb and Lewis Thompson, along with Harrison and Zuckerman, each put away one of their own. The final score was 4-0.

Charles Wright Academy forfeited their game against the Pirates on April 20. Charles Wright also forfeited in the fall against the girls’ soccer team.

On April 22, they faced Annie Wright at home. Once again, the Annie Wright Gators were only able to get about three shots off with no success.

On the Pirates side, Trundle-Strachan added two goals to his name with assists from Zuckerman and sophomore Rowan Marceau-Roache.

On Monday, April 24, the Pirates faced Cascade Christian for the first time this season at home. It was once more a Pirate-dominated game with a huge 7-1 win. Thompson had a hat trick, Marceau-Roache had a brace (two goals in a single game), and both Harrison and Zuckerman got one of their own. Assists were from Trundle-Strachan, Marecau-Roache, and senior Evan Serebryakov.

Three days later, the Pirates kicked off at home again against both the boys’ and the girls’ rivals, Bellevue Christian. It was expected to be a tight game as Bellevue Christian is second in the league after VHS.

The result, however, was much different than the expectation. Harrison started by scoring after receiving the ball from Thompson and dribbling past multiple defenders. Soon after this first goal, Bellevue Christian scored from a corner kick. But this would be the last time Bellevue would score. Just three minutes later, Serebryakov received the ball in front of the goal and scored.

Before halftime, Harrison got a brace after scoring from a dribble, and Thompson scored off of an assist from Newcomb. In the second half, the only goal placed in the back of the net was by Newcomb from a lovely through ball from Nick Zuckerman. The ending score was 5-1.

On April 29, the Pirates traveled to Sunset Stadium to play against Cascade Christian for the second time in a week. The score this time was much closer, winning 4-3.

The Pirates started the game unusually sluggish and found themselves down 0-3 at halftime, on senior night for the Cougars. Thompson opened up the second half by scoring, closing the gap to two goals. Then, Serebryakov scored off of a beautiful set piece from the top of the box.

Finally, at the end of regulation, Marcaeu-Roache scored off of a fantastic assist by Trundle-Strachan with just one second left in the game to tie the score up. The tie game forced overtime for a golden goal.

This was the Pirates’ third overtime game this season. And, within the first minute, Newcomb placed the ball in the back of the net, assisted by junior Orion Knowler, capping an extremely exciting come-from-behind victory.

Currently, the Pirates’ conference record is 12-0 while their overall record is 12-2. Senior night was held on Tuesday, May 2, at home. A final league game on the road against Seattle Christian will be played on Thursday, May 4.
